Teaching

At the University of Iowa, I was a graduate teaching assistant in Elementary Spanish for three semesters and Cultural Anthropology for one semester. Although the content and structure of the courses were very different, my pedagogical strategies were dedicated to creating activities which have students think outside of themselves. I did this by bringing up current events and issues, asking them to draw upon personal experiences, and using those shared experiences to create additional activities unique to the class. My strategies combined both new activities I designed myself and revamping those in the textbook. By using their lived experiences to make connections with one another, students will be better able to do so on a personal and professional level long after they leave my classroom.
