As part of digital programming during the stay-at-home closure, DMNS created a "Science Bites" miniseries, a two-minute segment featuring an object in the collection. I talk about a ceramic vase by Maria Martinez, celebrated as one of the most important Pueblo artists of the last century. Her work helped pave the way for Native American ceramics to be recognized as fine art.
This virtual Science on the Spot, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, focuses on the human role in stewardship and conservation of our planet: the story of the people, plants, and animals that inhabit it. DMNS collections staff shared images of objects in the collections along with stories of tragedy and hope that accompany them.
